Description

To develop, manufacture and test low loss high power (>37 dBm peak) acoustic wave filters for UHF, L- and S-band applications.Description: Acoustic Wave filters offer a drastically reduced size and weight compared to other filter technologies, such ascavity and planar filters, and are often employed in payload receivers and frequency converters. However, standard acoustic filter technology suffers from poor power handling capability, which prevents its use at the output section of telecommunication payloads. Various technical advances are ongoing in the frame of 5G terrestrial infrastructure applications to overcome the power limitation. Recent developments in advanced engineered substrates such guided surface acoustic wave (SAW) and single crystal bulk acoustic wave (XBAW), openthe possibility of developing high performance and medium filter components. Recently, up to 40-Watt peak power filterscentered at 3.55 GHz have been demonstrated. The technology could also offer semiconductor compatibility, enabling high integrationof RF front ends. This activity will assess several techniques to improve the power handling of acoustic wave based filters for on-board space applications, including reducing circuit losses, accelerating heat dissipation, and enhancing the resistance of acoustomigration and electro-migration. This activity aims at developing miniature high power acoustic wave filter technology for UHF, L- and S-band to support the realization of wavelength agnostic space telecommunication payloads. The availability of high power acousticfilters will enable higher integration and miniaturization of payloads output section. This activity encompasses the following tasks: - Requirements consolidation. - Trade-off analysis and identification of the most promising technology candidates. - Preliminary design and critical prototyping of acoustic resonators to de-risk the design. - Detailed design and analysis of filter breadboards. - Manufacturingand integration. - Testing and validation in relevant environment including power handling tests.
