The University of Calgary plans to purchase the compact Benchtop Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time of Flight (MALDI โ€“ TOF) Biotype Sirius RUO (Research Use Only) high throughput, rapid mass spectrometer system and an Infrared (IR) Biotyper from Bruker Ltd. These pieces of equipment are required to support CFI funded research focused on advanced, strain โ€“ level identification of microbial organisms in high-throughput microbiology lab environment.
Bruker Ltd. is the sole manufacturer and direct sales channel for both the MALDI Biotyper Sirius and IR Biotyper systems required for research use that is outside of the defined fields:
โ€ข Clinical Microbiology (laboratory testing on human samples intended to diagnose disease)
โ€ข Clinical Research Microbiology (testing on human samples for research use only, not for diagnostic purposes)
โ€ข Industrial Microbiology (including food testing, pharmaceutical microbiology, and personal care/cosmetic products)
