Die Erhebung bildet damit eine wesentliche Grundlage für evidenzbasierte Innovationspolitik in der Schweiz. Die Daten werden an Eurostat, die OECD und UNCTAD zwecks internationalen Vergleichs weitergeleitet. Sie dienen diversen Forschungsgruppen als Grundlage ihrer eigenen Statistiken.
