Auf Beschluss der ARD soll der ARD-SportHub zentral beim WDR in Köln etabliert werden. Ziel des Projekts ist die schrittweise Errichtung einer zukunftsweisenden, crossmedialen Produktionsumgebung für Sportformate. Der Fokus liegt auf der Optimierung redaktioneller, produktions-technischer und infrastruktureller Arbeitsbedingungen sowie der Einführung moderner, Medien-over-IP-basierter Produktionstechnologien. Bereits seit Januar 2025 produziert der WDR alle Sportgroßereignisse für die gesamte ARD, jeweils unter Federführung der zuständigen Landesrundfunkanstalt (LRA). Die neuen Produktionsräume werden in Köln im Gebäude Arkaden, 3.OG, aufgebaut. Der Auftragsgegenstand umfasst neben einer FS-Regie u.a. diverse Multifunktions-räume, einen Dispatcherraum, zwei Hörfunkregien inkl. Studios, ein Podcaststudio und mehrere OffTube Kabinen. Weiterhin ist Bestandteil dieser Ausschreibung die Errichtung von bis zu 50 redaktionellen Arbeitsplätzen in diversen Büros und auf offenen Flächen. Der 2015 in Betrieb genommene Sport Campus im Gebäude Arkaden, 2.OG, bietet aktuell den Platz für alle an den Herstellungsprozessen der WDR-Sportproduktionen beteiligten Fachbereiche (Redaktion, Produktion und Technik). Der vorhandene Raum besteht aus einer großen Open-Space-Fläche mit daran angeschlossenen redaktionellen Arbeitsplätzen, Konferenzräumen und technisch ausgestatteten Produktionseinheiten auf Basis klassischer Broadcasttechnik. Von dort aus werden alle relevanten Ausspielwege, insbesondere für die "Sportschau", "Sportschau.de" und deren Social-Media-Kanälen bedient. Das Herzstück wird die neue Sport Campus Regie auf Basis einer Live-IP-Infrastruktur bilden, die neben ihrer bestehenden Anbindung zur Presenterfläche im Open-Space-Bereich des Sport Campus zusätzlich auf die Studioflächen in der Rechtschule zugreifen soll, um kleinere Produktionen aus der Sportschau-Deko oder aus der Greenbox abzuwickeln. Die weiteren Produktionseinheiten des Sport Campus werden technisch an die neuen Multifunktionsräume im 3.OG angeglichen.
