De opdracht betreft het onderhouden, beheren en doorontwikkelen van de KNMI-app (iOS en Android).
In november 2024 heeft het KNMI een volledig vernieuwde iOS- en Android-app gelanceerd. Deze app is inmiddels uitgegroeid tot een essentieel kanaal binnen de KNMI-waarschuwingsketen: code rood en oranje worden aan 1,4 miljoen apparaten verstuurd.
De app moet 24/7 beschikbaar zijn en gemonitord worden, met snel herstel bij storingen en regelmatig onderhoud van de onderliggende code en systemen. Daarmee vormt de app een onmisbaar instrument voor informatievoorziening richting de gebruikers van de app.
Tegelijkertijd is er sprake van veel ontwikkelpotentieel om de doelen van het KNMI en het Early Warning Centre (EWC) te realiseren. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan lokaal waarschuwen en het opnemen van thema’s die snel aan relevantie winnen, zoals hitte en droogte in combinatie met gezondheid.
