Das Vorhaben der Netzergänzenden Maßnahme 17 (NeM17) ist durch den Infrastrukturbedarf auf den Außenästen des bestehenden S-Bahn-Netzes bedingt, der sich durch das ab Inbetriebnahme der 2. S-Bahn-Stammstrecke zugrunde zu legende Betriebsprogramm ergibt. Mit der 2. S-Bahn-Stammstrecke wird die Neuerrichtung einer zweigleisigen S-Bahn-Strecke, beginnend im Personenbahnhof München-Laim und endend im Bahnhofsteil München-Leuchtenbergring mit den dazwischenliegenden Haltepunkten Hauptbahnhof Bahnhofplatz, Marienhof und Ostbahnhof als Gesamtprojekt verfolgt. Zur Gewährleistung der Durchführbarkeit des Betriebsprogramms wird ein zweites Streckengleis auf der Ostseite des vorhandenen Gleises zwischen dem Hp Steinebach und dem Bf Seefeld-Hechendorf gebaut. Die Gleisanlagen, Ingenieurbauwerke, sowie die technische Ausrüstung werden für die Zweigleisigkeit angepasst bzw. erweitert. Ebenfalls umfasst der Projektumgriff die barrierefreie Erschließung der Verkehrsstation Steinebach. Weiterhin sind zwischen den Bf Weßling und Bf Herrsching Schallschutzmaßnahmen berücksichtigt. Das Vorhaben wird im Bereich der Strecke 5541 km 18,800 – 30,890 umgesetzt. Es befindet sich in den Gemeinden Weßling, Seefeld, Wörthsee und Herrsching a. Ammersee im Landkreis Starnberg, Bayern.
