Description

The Misericordia Community Hospital, Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) is undersized by 157 square meters. An MDRD that handles 75 to 88 surgeries per day is recommended to be 1,337 square meters, the current Misericordia MDRD is currently approximately 1,180 square meters. It was evident upon review of the spaces that an expansion is required to ensure Decontamination, Sterile Storage, and Endoscopy/Colonoscopy/Gastroscopy are able to meet workflow demands efficiently and effectively. In addition, the current MDRD limits training demands, as there is not a dedicated teaching space . There are many pieces of equipment that are at their end of life and require replacement. In addition, several finishes (walls, flooring, and ceilings) do not meet current CSA standards for infection control. The Misericordia Community Hospital, Alberta Surgical Initiative (ASI), is a full-service acute care facility serving the residents of West Edmonton. As part of this Initiative, the proposed redevelopment of the Operating Rooms will help address surgical waiting times across the province. The project will reconfigure two undersized cystoscopy suites and the Day Surgery/Recovery area by extending the current Day Surgery stretcher space into the former cystoscopy waiting room. This will create a contiguous patient care area, enabling staff to provide more efficient care. The redevelopment will also create two operating theatres with adjacent support spaces and include upgrades to the surgical air handling and distribution systems to meet current codes, standards, and operational requirements. Commodity Categories: Process and procedures management consultation service, Project management, Project administration or planning, Professional engineering services Delivery Region: Alberta, Edmonton
