Repair of the Chamber Walls at the Raffelberg Rhine Lock

This tender concerns the repair and refurbishment of the Raffelberg Rhine Lock, which is managed by the Duisburg site of the Westdeutsche Kanäle Waterways and Shipping Office. Significant damage has been observed on the concrete surfaces of the lock chamber walls, and the niche bollards are also damaged and unusable, having been largely removed for safety reasons in 2011. This compromises the unimpeded safety and efficiency of shipping traffic. The lock head and chamber block 7, constructed from modern reinforced concrete, are largely undamaged. The primary objective of this project is to ensure the continued safe operation of the Raffelberg Rhine Lock until its planned service life ends in 2069. Specific measures include repairing the chamber walls (blocks 1 to 6) and the lower head, repairing bollards, raising the lock floor level, renewing equipment such as ladders, edge protection, grab handles, and bollards, replacing the impact beam, securing the chamber walls with anchors, installing new sole beams, and creating two crane support areas. Further details are provided in the "Description of the Measure" document. A key challenge for bidders will be to collaboratively develop the construction sequence within the negotiated procedure. The works must be carried out during ongoing lock operations, with work conducted during the day and the lock being released for traffic afterwards. A maximum of three closure periods, each lasting 4 weeks (including one week for dewatering and cofferdam construction by the client), are available. During these periods, additional personnel and equipment will be required. Specifics regarding the construction schedule are detailed in section 2.1.12 of the "Description of the Measure" document.
