The city has assessed the suitability of AI-based real-time interpretation solutions for customer work and their potential to supplement existing interpretation services.
The aim of the procurement is to enable better accessibility of multilingual services, streamline customer service situations, and improve operational cost-effectiveness, while taking into account requirements related to data protection, information security, and service quality. AI interpretation has been tested in Espoo's employment services during 2026 through a limited trial.
The future procurement aims to tender a solution that enables real-time AI-assisted interpretation in use cases and service channels defined by the city. The detailed scope of the procurement, minimum requirements, and implementation model will be specified based on the market survey and market dialogue.

The purpose of the market dialogue is to map the market situation regarding AI interpretation. The City of Espoo would like to hear the thoughts of potential suppliers on the implementation of the tender and the preparation of the request for proposals.

The market dialogue will be conducted as Teams discussions, tentatively during weeks 50 and 51. The City of Espoo is not committed to discussing with all those who register for the market dialogue. Those registered for the market dialogue may also be sent tender documents for comment at a later announced time.
We ask suppliers interested in participating in the market dialogue to register in Tarjouspalvelu by 16.11.2026 at 16:00.
The market dialogue and the information provided therein do not bind the participating parties, nor is it a prerequisite for later participation in the actual tender competition. No compensation will be paid for participating in the market dialogue. Responses will be treated confidentially. The contracting authority reserves the right to process the responses given in the market dialogue using AI, provided that the material does not contain information about individual respondents or information marked as trade secrets.
The official request for proposals is expected to be published in the spring of 2027, according to current information.
