Terms of Reference for IUCN Consultancy Terms of Reference for drilling of a borehole for potable water supply for the IUCN Harare office Objective of the Consultancy The primary objective of the assignment is to engage a qualified contractor to drill a borehole for the Harare Office. Under the supervision of IUCN, the contractor will drill and case a borehole in accordance with applicable national standards. Work shall include, but not necessarily be limited to; Specifications Rotary air percussion Diameter 165-200m Casing PVC class 9/10 Depth Minimum 40m and change price/metre thereafter Specific activities • Borehole drilling to the required depth. • Installation of casing Borehole Drilling • Unless otherwise approved, the borehole shall be constructed using suitable PVC or other approved casing materials. Equipment • Drilling rig • Compressor • Air hammer • Mud pump Health, safety and Environment The Contractor shall be responsible for maintaining safe working conditions throughout the project. The Contractor shall: • Provide appropriate PPE. • Secure the drilling area. • Control drilling fluids and waste. • Prevent contamination of groundwater. • Properly dispose of drilling waste. • Restore disturbed areas where required. • Maintain appropriate emergency procedures. Contractors Responsibilities The Contractor shall: • Provide all labour and equipment. • Provide competent technical personnel. • Obtain required approvals/permits for its activities. • Protect existing property and infrastructure. • Maintain site safety. • Keep accurate drilling records. • Complete the works within the agreed programme. • Rectify defects attributable to poor workmanship.
