This invitation for prequalification follows the general procurement notice for this project that appeared in United Nations Development Business online version on 7 October 2004,United Nations Development Business Vol. 27 No. 642 of 16 November 2004 and in dgMarket.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MMPW) has received a grant from the World Bank Iraq Trust Fund towards thecost of the Upgrading of the Water Supply System in Al-Hussainiya City, Baghdad Governorate, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds of this grant to payments under the contract for the Supply and Installation of Raw Water Intake Structure and Pump Station in Khan Bani Saad near Al-Khalis Canal and a 600mm diameter Water Transmission Pipeline of an approximate length of 14 kms. MMPW intends to prequalify contractors and/or firms for the Supply and Installation of a reinforced concrete raw water intake structure of a total capacity of 1,250 m3/hr from Al-Khalis canal near the existing water treatment plant in Khan Bani Saad, consisting of a lateral intake of an open channel followed by a double 400 mm diameter pipes that discharge the water into a reinforced concrete water reservoir of an average capacity of 250 m3. Water reservoir consisted of 2 compartments and suction well, will lead the water into an adjacent pump station that will be provided with 3 pumps (2 operating and one standby) of a capacity of 625 m3/hr each. Pump station compound will consist of a total area of approximate 2,500 m2, comprising a guard house and administration building. Power will befed through an outdoor transformer and standby diesel generator. Pumpstation compound will be provided with all utilities such as potable water, sewerage network, telecommunication network and storm water drainage system. Raw water will be pumped out of the compound via a 600 mm diameter transmission pipeline of approximate 14 kms long to a Water Treatment Plant to be located nearAl-Shaoora Village. Pipeline routing will be parallel to Al-Khalis Canal on the upstream part for an approximate length of 3 kms and to the downstream it will be running parallel to the old main road connecting Baghdad with Baaquba City for another 7 kms. Further downstream, the pipeline will be installed in the reservation of the new tourist road before entering Al-Shaoora village and joiningthe site of the Water Treatment Plant to be located near the village (downstream water treatment plant doesn#t form part of this contract).Furthermore, the Transmission Pipeline will be provided with some 18 reinforced concrete chambers consisted of air vents, washouts and inspection chambers. Average depth of the Pipeline will be ranging from 2 to4. It is expected that invitations for bid will be made in May 2006.

Prequalification will be conducted through prequalification procedures specified in the World Bank#s Guidelines: and is open to all biddersfrom eligible source countries, as defined in the guidelines.

Interested eligible applicants may obtain further information from and inspect the prequalification document at MMPW (address below) from 0800 to 1600 hours Baghdad local time. A complete set of the prequalification document in English may be purchased byinterested applicants (a) on the submission of a written application to the address below and upon payment of a nonrefundable fee of US$ 100. The method of payment will be cash or certified check issued to theStrategic Management Office of the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works. The document will be sent by courier or can be collected inperson at the address shown below, starting from 5 March 2006.

Applications for prequalification should be submitted in sealed envelopes, delivered to the address below by 17 April 2006, and be clearly marked "Application to Prequalify for Supply and Installation of Raw Water Intake Structure, Pump Station and Water Transmission Pipeline from Khan Bani Saad to a Water Treatment Plant to be located near Al-Shaoora Village"
