Open competition for an idea concept for: reconstruction and conversion of the textile technical school building into a center for contemporary art "Christo and Jeanne-Claude" - Gabrovo city

The strategic goal is the creation of a world-class "Christo and Jeanne-Claude" Center for Contemporary Art in Gabrovo by transforming and adapting the building of the former Textile Technical School in the city. The idea is for the Center to provide space for both the presentation and creation of contemporary art. The focus of its activities are: contemporary art, public art, and textiles. To achieve this goal, the project solution must: - Create a welcoming architectural environment for different experiences, behaviors, and ways of being in the building and yard - sharing, enjoyment, discovery, contemplation, exploration, immersion, collaboration - corresponding to the planned activities and programs: permanent exhibitions, temporary exhibitions, educational programs, artist studios, workshops for metal, wood, casting, ceramics, glass, textiles, photography and video, mediala, fablab, creative residencies and research projects, Institute for Public Art, library focusing on contemporary art, public art, textiles, material library for textiles, shared workspaces for artists, researchers, creative industries and the local community, restaurant, cafe, souvenir shop, northwest garden and east courtyard, which function as an open stage, space for artistic interventions, community space and relaxation area; - Preserve the memory of the building and its place in the industrial and educational history of Gabrovo and ensure continuity by upgrading the existing structure with modern architectural solutions without erasing its history. The built-up area of the entire building, subject of the project task, is 2,737 sq. m, and the developed built-up area is 13,330 sq. m.
