Combining the latest science with the traditional knowledge of local communities, these projects work to reverse habitat loss, restore ecosystems and improve people’s well-being. www.iucn.org https://twitter.com/IUCN/ About the Project The Bahari Mali II (Accelerating Blue Economy Resilience for People and Nature in Tanzania’s key Seascapes) project builds on the Bahari Mali (Sustainable Blue Livelihoods in the Tanga-Pemba Seascape) project, IUCN Eastern and Southern Africa’s Blue Resilience Framework, composed of 3 key pillars: Blue Planet, Blue People and Blue Partnerships. The programme also contributes towards implementation of the Great Blue Wall Initiative. Bahari Mali II project aims to “accelerate the implementation of transformative technical and policy solutions that will result in a climate-resilient Blue Economy in priority seascapes in Tanzania”. More specifically, the Bahari Mali II Project aims to achieve the following objectives: Statement of Requirements for Goods v1 March2024 1. Enhance collaboration, policy engagement and impact across Team Ireland and Team Europe programmes in Tanzania’s Blue Economy through a coordinated partnership approach. 2. Strengthen inclusive climate governance and management systems for coastal and marine resources. 3. Promote climate-resilient approaches that support healthy ecosystems, build local adaptation capacity in priority seascapes. 4. Improve the economic resilience of coastal communities by enhancing value chains and expanding access to sustainable markets and financing in Tanzania’s Blue Economy. To consolidate and accelerate achievement of the project’s goal, objectives and impact, four (4) interrelated components will be implemented as follows: a) Component 1: Promote and contribute to a more ambitious and effective partnership under team Ireland/ team Europe funded programmes in the blue economy space b) Component 2: Build effective institutions and governance systems for inclusive outcomes in the Blue economy space in Tanzania c) Component 3: Scale up integrated approach to climate change and seascape systems management through Nature-based Solutions d) Component 4: Support business enabling conditions for accelerating climate-resilient blue economy investments and businesses Under the Bahari Mali II project, and as part of the activities designed to achieve Objective 4, the project will support the procurement and delivery of six (6) fiberglass boats, eight (8) Yamaha outboard engines, two (2) light boats, two (2) anchors and four (4) anchor ropes. These assets will be distributed to eight community groups in Pemba and Tanga, strengthening their capacity to carry out fishing and marine- based livelihood activities more safely and efficiently. The provision of durable fiberglass boats and reliable outboard engines is expected to reduce the groups' dependence on aging or poorly equipped vessels, improve access to productive fishing grounds, and contribute to greater income stability for participating households. The project will oversee the procurement process to ensure that the equipment meets the required quality standards and is delivered to the beneficiary groups on schedule.
