Field Coordinator / Research Manager – Uganda

Aninver Development Partners SL (www.aninver.com) is looking for a Field Coordinator / Research Manager for a governance, private sector consultancy assignment financed by UNICEF in Uganda.

Aninver Development Partners is seeking an expert Field Coordinator / Research Manager for an upcoming institutional assessment in Uganda supported by UNICEF. The assignment focuses on evaluating the implementation, emerging outcomes, and institutionalization-readiness of the national Life Skills Programme, which equips learners with essential psychosocial competencies and socio-emotional learning across diverse educational settings.

The successful candidate will oversee the operational logistics and day-to-day execution of multi-site fieldwork. Operating out of the capital and coordinating across urban, rural, and refugee-hosting districts, the Field Coordinator will ensure seamless data collection, strict adherence to ethical standards and child safeguarding, and efficient management of local research teams.

Aninver is preparing a proposal for this assignment. The selected expert will be part of the proposed team; the engagement is conditional on the contract being awarded to Aninver. The full Terms of Reference for the position are shared with shortlisted candidates.

Objectives of the assignment

• Coordinate multi-site quantitative surveys and qualitative data collection across diverse implementation districts.
• Ensure strict adherence to ethical guidelines, research protocols, and child safeguarding principles during fieldwork.
• Manage local data collection teams, enumerators, and field logistics to guarantee high-quality data generation.
• Facilitate smooth communication between the core assessment team, local government authorities, and school stakeholders.

Scope of work

• Contribute to the finalization of fieldwork schedules, deployment plans, and operational logistics for the assessment.
• Obtain necessary local administrative research permits and clearances prior to field deployment.
• Recruit, train, and supervise field researchers, enumerators, and qualitative data collectors.
• Coordinate multi-site quantitative surveys involving schools, teachers, and learners across targeted regions.
• Manage qualitative data collection activities, including Key Informant Interviews and Focus Group Discussions.
• Implement robust quality assurance and data verification protocols during all phases of fieldwork.
• Manage field-level relations with school administrators, local education officials, and community leaders.

Your role as Field Coordinator / Research Manager

• Oversee day-to-day field operations and logistical arrangements for multi-site research activities across the country.
• Coordinate the deployment and movement of data collection teams in urban, rural, and refugee-hosting contexts.
• Supervise field researchers to ensure standardized data collection procedures and rigorous adherence to methodologies.
• Monitor data quality, check completed surveys and transcripts, and resolve operational bottlenecks in real time.
• Ensure strict compliance with child safeguarding policies, ethical standards, and informed consent protocols.
• Liaise with local authorities and school management committees to secure cooperation and facilitate smooth field access.
• Support the data management team in organizing, tracking, and safely transferring completed datasets to headquarters.

Requirements

• Education: Relevant degree in social sciences, education, public administration or a related field
• Experience managing field-based research assignments and coordinating data collection teams in multiple locations

Desirable

• Previous professional experience working on education, adolescent development, or governance assignments in Uganda.
• Familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative data collection methodologies in school or community settings.
• Proficiency in relevant local languages spoken across the targeted implementation districts.

An organized and experienced Field Coordinator with a strong background in managing complex, multi-site data collection teams, rigorous adherence to research ethics, and proven success delivering field operations in challenging environments.
